Shared Revenue Utility Payment
Back to News
Wisconsin counties and municipalities that host electric power plants are paid an annual Shared Revenue Utility Payment from the State. The municipality receives the payment because public utilities are generally exempt from local property taxes, but instead pay sales taxes to the State. Because Pleasant Prairie hosts the WE Energies Power Plant, the Village receives an annual payment based on the plantís productivity and other factors.
In 2009, the Village will receive an additional $1.4 million (over and above the amount received during 2007, $782,000). These additional funds will be used to help cover costs associated with major road construction projects planned over the next three years.
