On Wednesday evening, February 23, the membership of the Kenosha Barracuda Swim Team overwhelmingly voted to merge with the Pleasant Prairie RecPlex in Pleasant Prairie, Wisconsin. RecPlex representatives and the Barracuda’s Board of Directors have been working for several months to come to a transition agreement. “The agreement will offer RecPlex a competitive swim team with a rich history in the area,” commented Joe Roszak, Aquatics Director for RecPlex and the Village of Pleasant Prairie. “In turn, the agreement will offer the team one of the State’s best aquatic facilities to further the growth of their athletes.” Barracuda Head Coach Luke Schumm further commented, “This is a great opportunity for the Kenosha area swimming community to partner with an established facility to provide more opportunities for young swimmers.”
Beginning April 1, 2011, the Kenosha Barracuda Swim Team will begin operating under a new name, the Pleasant Prairie Patriots, and will begin to call RecPlex their home facility. The merger will allow the team to expand and utilize the state-of-the-art 50-meter pool to grow the sport of competitive swimming in southeastern Wisconsin. “The excellent management of the current team and the resources available at RecPlex will really create a great opportunity for current and future team participants along the lines of training and development,” added Roszak. “We’re incredibly excited to have a team with a strong foundation and to be able to help them take the sport to the next level.” More information about the RecPlex Aqua Arena is available at RecPlexOnline.com and in the news section of PleasantPrairieOnline.com.
