08/02/2007 | VK Development To Fund Highway 50 Improvements

During a July 23, 2007 Village Board Meeting, an agreement concerning improvements to be made along State Highway 50 in the Village of Pleasant Prairie was considered. The agreement between the Village of Pleasant Prairie and the developer of the Target and JCPenney site along the south side of Highway 50 refers to three phases of improvements that will be made to Highway 50 beginning as early as October 1 of this year.

VK Development, who will directly benefit from the improvements, will cover 100% of the funding for Phases 1 and 2 of the project. Contrary to what has been publicly reported, VK Development will also cover 100% of the Village’s financial responsibility for Phase 3 of the project, or approximately $3 million.

Improvements along Highway 50 are necessary in order to accommodate the Target and JCPenney development that is planned on the south side of the highway, according to a traffic impact analysis performed by HNTB Corporation. Improvements will be made in phases between 88th Avenue on the east and 104th Avenue on the west, a stretch of the highway that is located inside the Village. The Village has an agreement with WIDOT to complete the improvements. The Village of Pleasant Prairie will assume no financial burden for the work.
