12/26/2007 | Registration Begins With the New Year for Summer Day Camps
Registration for the 2008 Summer Day Camp Season begins with the New Year on January 2, 2008. Registration for Summer Day Camp involves completing some preliminary paperwork, making a small deposit and securing a spot for the child in the Summer Day Camp Program run at RecPlex and Prairie Springs Park in Pleasant Prairie, Wisconsin. Staff is pleased to announce the start of registration so early, because they feel it will help parents meet one of their most important New Year’s resolutions, to help their kids be more physically active.
Children in the program spend their summer, swimming (both indoors and out), ice skating, playing outdoors in the park and at the Lake Andrea Beach, playing indoors in a large fieldhouse, and participating in sports, games and craft activities. Children also participate in weekly field trips. From year-to-year, specialty camps are also offered to engage children and keep them involved in activities they enjoy. “Parents can feel confident that they’re meeting that goal to keep their kids active and engaged in a safe, well-monitored, supervised setting,” remarked Anne Hamby, Youth and Family Services Coordinator at RecPlex. “It’s a great way for parents to meet that goal of keeping their kids physically active.”
Summer Day Camp at Prairie Springs Park appeals to families living in the surrounding community and also to those who travel to or through the community for work. Located immediately east of I-94 between Chicago and Milwaukee (off of Highway 165 in Pleasant Prairie), the program is easily accessible for local families and commuters alike. “As unlikely a time as this may seem to announce a Summer Camp Registration, the timing couldn’t be better, right as people are making resolutions like helping their kids to be more physically active or to start planning ahead,” added Hamby. “Parents can take one, small, proactive step towards meeting a couple of common New Year’s resolutions.”
Summer Day Camp at Prairie Springs Park had nearly 400 participants during 2007 ranging in age from preschool through middle school. A summer day camp program is also run for children with special needs. The camp is accredited by the ACA (American Camp Association of Wisconsin), a leading authority in child development that monitors the quality of camp programs. A Summer Camps Expo will be held at RecPlex in March to offer families more information about the program. The Summer Camp season will begin in early June. Those seeking childcare for the summer months will find more information at PrairieSpringsCamp.com or by telephone at 262/925-6748.
