10/15/2007 | Father in Custody in Fatal Accident
(Pleasant Prairie, WI) Miguel Saavedra, 24 of Bristol was taken into custody earlier today by Pleasant Prairie Police Officers and Milwaukee County Sheriff’s Deputies at the Milwaukee County Medical Complex. He is being held at the Kenosha County Jail on one count of homicide by negligent operation of motor vehicle in connection with the Saturday evening accident that resulted in the death of his son, Michael Saavedra age 3 of Bristol and injuries to his two other children and four other adults.

Saavedra is expected to be formally charged on Tuesday and additional charges including several counts of causing injury by negligent operation are likely. None of the three children in the vehicle were properly restrained in child safety seats and witnesses report that that Saavedra’s vehicle entered the intersection of State Highway 50 and 88th Avenue on a red or yellow light in an apparent effort to “beat the light”.
