Pleasant Prairie Police Department2006 New Releases Archive
06/29/2006 | Man in Custody for Armed Robbery Leshurn Hunt , 43 of Waukegan was taken into custody at his home by Waukegan Police Tuesday afternoon in connection with an armed robbery that occurred at the Dollar Saver Store located at 12719 Sheridan Road in the Village of Pleasant Prairie. According to Pleasant Prairie Police reports, a male armed with what appeared to be some type of home made or altered handgun described by witnesses as looking like a piece of pipe wrapped with duct tape, robbed the store shortly after 4:00 P.M. and then forced both clerks into a bathroom at gunpoint before fleeing the store through a rear door. A video surveillance tape and license plate log from a nearby gas station led police to Hunt. “Hunt was inside the gas station just prior to the robbery at the Dollar Saver Store”, Pleasant Prairie Police Chief Brian Wagner said. “As a matter of routine, they log license plate numbers at this particular gas station so that in the event of a gas drive-off they’ll have information for the police”, he said. He credits that, combined with good police work for the quick resolution of this crime. “This Offender has prior convictions for armed robbery and murder and I am relieved that he was in custody so quickly”, Wagner said. Hunt is also a suspect in an armed robbery in the City of Waukegan earlier in the day on Monday. He is being held in the Lake County Jail. He is expected to be charged in Wisconsin with armed robbery, false imprisonment and being a felon in possession of a firearm. Extradition to Wisconsin will follow the issuance of those charges by the Kenosha County District Attorney.
