04/18/2006 | Man Dead In Single Vehicle Accident
On Monday April 17, 2006 at 11:45 P.M., Pleasant Prairie Police responded to a report of a car accident in the 9100 block of 7th Ave. According to police spokesman Officer Pete Jung, a neighbor called police after hearing what sounded like a vehicle hitting the guardrail.

Upon arrival, officers found a 1992 Corvette had been southbound on 7th Ave, left the roadway, struck the guardrail, and flipped over several times. The car came to rest approximately 60 feet from the road. The lone occupant and driver had been ejected and was located almost 200 feet from the car.

The driver, RANDALL A BARKER age 47 of Kenosha was taken by Pleasant Prairie Rescue Squad to Kenosha Memorial Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

According to Jung, the road in this area takes a sharp right turn where 7th Ave turns into 91st Street. The speed limit on 7th Ave is 40mph, but there is a sign warning drivers to slow to 15mph for the curve. It appears that the driver had been unable to negotiate this curve.

The accident remains under investigation; however excessive speed and failure to wear a seatbelt appear to be contributing factors. It is unknown at this time whether alcohol was involved.
