03/17/2005 | Pleasant Prairie Police to Honor Longtime Police K9
(PLEASANT PRAIRIE, WI) The Pleasant Prairie Police Department will honor it’s retired longtime police K9 Astor, with the presentation of a plaque and a “special gift” at a public event on Monday March 21, 2005. Astor retired in August of 2004 due to health concerns.

The event will begin at 3:00 P.M. at the Roger Prange Municipal Center, 8600 Green Bay Road in Pleasant Prairie and will feature a plaque presentation honoring Astor, the Pleasant Prairie Police Department’s first ever police K9. Following the presentation, the plaque will be placed on permanent display in the lobby of the police department.

Astor will also be presented with a “platter of hamburgers”. The story behind this presentation will be told by former K9 handler Assistant Chief Timothy Becker. The event will also include brief remarks by Village President John Steinbrink, Pleasant Prairie Police Chief Brian Wagner and Astor's last handler and current owner Officer Stephen McKinnon.

The department will also present Officer Scott Durkee as our new K9 handler. Officer Durkee will travel to North Carolina in April to train with his new K9 partner before both return to the Village of Pleasant Prairie for duty.

This event should provide an interesting story and images for media personnel and the press are encouraged to attend.
