Pleasant Prairie Police Department2004 New Releases Archive
11/02/2004 | Youth in Custody on Burglary Charges Pleasant Prairie Police were called to the 26th Avenue residence at 11:41 A.M. when the homeowner returned to find a door to his residence kicked in, the interior in a disarray and several firearms including handguns missing. Neighbors related that a teenage boy had come to the door at about 9:30 or 10:00 A.M. and claimed to be looking for someone. They further described a vehicle which matched that of a car which police officers had earlier tagged as abandoned, in the 3500 block of 93rd Street. Officers returned to the 3500 block of 93rd Street and found that the car was now gone. Officers began checking area homes and discovered a home in the 3500 block of 93rd Street that had been similarly entered. A attempt to locate/officer safety message was broadcast to area law enforcement agencies in an attempt to locate the suspect vehicle which was registered to a Kenosha Woman. At about 5:30 P.M. the vehicle was located by the Kenosha Police Department parked at the owners residence. Pleasant Prairie Detectives responded and made contact with the occupants of the home. It was determined that the vehicle owners 16 year old brother had been driving the car at the time of the burglaries. He was not present at the house at that time and a consent search of his room was conducted. In the boy's room several of the stolen firearms were found as well as several empty gun cases from the 26th Avenue burglary. According to Pleasant Prairie Police Chief Brian Wagner, the boy was later taken into custody without incident by Kenosha Police and was found in possession of a handgun from the 26th Avenue burglary at that time. "This was another example of good police work by our Officers and by the Kenosha Police Department's Officers, whose assistance in this case was critical in helping us to recover the stolen weapons and get them off the street quickly", Wagner said. |
